horizon, and moving to a News and Talk format. Colleen Wares and I, along with Jim Alexander
would be responsible for providing much local news to the station that would start out with a
lot of national syndicated programming. I told the boss about a guy who was called "the Paul Harvey of the 90's." He was controversial,
but picking up affiliates and a lot of attention. Next thing we knew, WTCM NewsTalk 580 was a
Rush Limbaugh affiliate. With that show came Dr. Dean Edell. I recall we also had a guy named
Chuck Harter in the afternoon, later replaced by Larry King, and later by the great G-Man, G.
Gordon Liddy. Rush changed...no, saved AM radio across the country. He spawned imitators, and inspired others
to create their own presence on the dial. Love him or hate him, Rush was a great broadcaster. He
understood and loved the medium. He changed the face of Republican politics, and politics overall as well as national news media.
His opponents have tried every trick in the book to get him off the dial, understanding the
immense power and influence he commanded. The word came down today like a punch in my gut. Rush is gone. Thank you Rush for all that you have done for the medium of radio and the business of
broadcasting, for validating the views of millions of conservative thinkers, for the millions of
dollars that you have donated to good causes, for the many laughs, for your courage.
